I understand business fundamentals — While running an event and experiential marketing business in 2011-2013, I went back to school to study Entrepreneurship in a post-graduate certificate program. I went on to sell my shares to my business partner before going back to web design and digital marketing.
I’ve been tinkering with the web since I was a kid — My parents used to yell at me to get off the internet so that they could make a phone call (back when the internet was on dial-up).
I have been freelancing for over 13 years — I decided after doing years of graphic design and web work for my family and friends to put up a website so I could charge them instead of doing it for free! Thus began my path to where I am today.
When I was 16, I built a website attracting ~30,000 visitors/month — There was a vibrant forum, downloads, resources and lots more. This was the foundation for my interest in all things digital and provided the early experience necessary to get me started.
I treat my clients like family — When I give advice, I think about what I would do if it were my mother or father asking me what to do for their business. I look at and discuss risk and reward. I tell them when I don’t know.
I was born in Ireland (but have a Canadian accent) — In the 80’s, my family immigrated to Ontario and we’ve lived here ever since. My wife wishes I stayed in Ireland long enough to develop an Irish accent.
A brief history in the third person
Kevin has designed and developed websites for over fifteen years. Since starting out, Kevin has built or managed 100+ websites on behalf of organizations of all sizes.
Kevin’s initial success started back in 2002 when he created a website and online community on the topic of web security.
Within a year, the site attracted over 100,000 monthly page views and nearly 30,000 unique visitors each month. He led a small team of passionate hobbyists to help develop tools and resources needed to grow the site.
Many years later, Kevin still relies on his experience building that community in addition to the decade-plus experience working on countless client projects to fulfill his work.
Before venturing into full-time consulting, Kevin operated a distributed web design and digital marketing agency called KVNW Digital Marketing where he helped small business with their web design and digital marketing needs.
Prior to that, Kevin worked for one of Canada’s preeminent law firms where he was responsible for managing the firm’s websites, social channels, and implementing their digital marketing initiatives.
While at the law firm, Kevin’s work on a digital campaign contributed to the receipt of a legal marketing award. The campaign involved the creation of a microsite, social media strategy, and supporting digital materials.
Kevin was also on a small steering committee in charge of a large website re-design, which took approximately one year to complete, giving him valuable insight into large web redesign projects.
